Meeting Date: Tuesday, February 27
Meeting Time: 12:15-1:30 pm
Small Group Day: At least once per quarter, instead of having speakers, we break out into small groups. The groups are given a specific topic to discuss. These topics are aimed at helping us become better networkers as well as discussing topics that pertain to small business owners.

This week’s topic is 30 second commercials. We will be helping each other improve and hone our commercials. For some basic information about these commercials, please read the following article or feel free to find others online. http://www.stetson.edu/administration/career/30-second-commercial.php

The group list for small groups is attached to this email. Please do not concern yourself with the arrows – they are there to help us change up the groups each quarter.
Attendance: If unable to attend, please email Vic Patalano at vap4stuff@gmail.com.
Dues: Payment for March is due no later than February 27.  Please contact Nanci Walls at nwalls@trumark.org for any issues relating to dues.
Summary of Previous Speakers:

Category: Commercial Financing
Speaker:  Eric Blumenthal
Summary:
Eric explained that he gets business (in our group) as a commercial lender when Trumark is unable to help a customer secure financing. He explained the differences between commercial lending and residential lending. He then described his two roles – sometimes he is a commercial finance broker and sometimes he is a direct lender. He gave examples of various situations to give more clarity to these roles then answered many questions about his sources for financing as well as risk assessment and evaluating an exit strategy.

Summary:

A real ATM will not break and it also will not wiggle at all but a scammer could do either. Steve also shared with the group the some details about home equity lines of credit including some of the many uses for the funds.

Category: Investigation
Speaker:  Charlie Harris
Summary:
Charlie began by describing some of the reasons to do pre-employment background checks including looking at a potential employee’s driving record and credit history.  He answered questions regarding the scope of his search and how he will look into all states of previous residence.  He then discussed the “secret shop” services he offers to verify that employees are treating customers the way you want them to be treated.  He ended his time sharing that he also offers termination services.  Many businesses use their human resource director to not only terminate employees but also to recover company property.  Charlie will take the recovery process away from your company allowing your HR person to remain safely in their office.

Summary of Previous Speaker:
Category: Wiring
Speaker:  Matt McDevitt
Summary:
~ Independent Wiring is a thirty year family wiring business primarily working for commercial and industrial businesses. We specialize in electrical and telecommunication cabling.
~  70% of our business comes from up and running businesses (post construction). Offices, educational, medical and places of industry are always a good fit because they normally need regular maintenance, small installs, and building upgrades.
~  We contract out on small to medium sized construction projects but never subcontract our work out.
~  We are not a lowest bidder style contractor. Our belief is that quality work, speedy service and a lifetime warranty gives our clients the value they come to expect from a wiring contractor.
~  We are asking that everyone look through their contact lists and try to pass one introduction to us. We need to be introduced before a wiring need arises. Being introduced prior to the need puts us in a position to help them and earn their business when the time is right. We understand that they may not currently have any wiring needs or may even have an existing relationship with another contractor. Most of our clients use more than one contractor. More than not it is the most responsive contractor who receives the business.

Category: Auto Detailing
Speaker:  Marvin Wallace
Summary:
~  A discount is offered to the group members so that each can get their car done and simply refer others when they mention how great the car looks.
~  Maintaining your car through detailing can improve the overall value over the lifetime of the car.  Marvin shared that one customer sold his car the next day for book value which he did not expect to get but the detailing added to the value at sale.
~  Marvin explained that each new customer on average can lead to ten more customers and many of those customers continue to get service either through his maintenance program or through regular detailing.  This relationship gives added value to each referral.
~  Many group members shared their experience with Marvin and gave testament to his quality of service and overall value.

Summary of Previous Speaker:
Category: Acupuncture
Speaker:  Laura Orr
Summary:
Laura has her degree in hospitality.  When she met Curran Latchford at Ground Luminosity, she knew she had found a better way to help people.  Ground Luminoisty gets its name from the first stage of meditation.  Curran positioned her business to be a step in the path to wellness for her clients.  The entire practice is based in eastern medicine and methodology.  Eastern medicine follows the concept of meridians which are energy paths through the body, each of which relate to a major organ.  Acupuncture is practiced by placing small, fine needles at appropriate places along these meridians to help the body heal naturally.
